MMS is a wireless technology that allows sending media over SMS. This media includes Photo’s and Audio. This was released around the world with the iPhone 3.0 firmware update, but AT&T didn’t support it on launch.

AT&T’s network has been struggling to meet the needs of iPhone users. AT&T feared the network would be overrun by MMS data and did not allow MMS at first. The iPhone allows users to easily connect to the internet and get tons of data, and the iPhone app store is filled with Apps that require an internet connection. AT&T did not plan for this, and their network was overrun by Internet requests. Many users are complaining of outages and extremely slow connections, and are criticizing AT&T over their lack of preparedness.

AT&T spent millions over the summer to update it’s network so it can support MMS, and today, it reluctantly allowed MMS on the iPhone. Users will need to plug their iPhone into their computer, wherein iTunes will prompt you to update your carrier information. After the quick update, your iPhone will work with MMS!
